Ruth Glascoe Davis, 89, of LaGrangeville, NY departed this life Saturday, September 22, 2012. Born January 15, 1923 in Greenville SC, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Nettie Graves Glascoe. Also preceding her in death are her husband of 33 years, Wofford Davis and daughter, Kathryn Ann Wilson. She leaves loving and treasured memories for her daughter, Susan Davis Reese Passaro (Mark) of LaGrangeville and her grandson, Daniel Wofford Wilson of Charlotte, NC.
Known as "Pete" to her family and friends in Greenville, Ruth graduated Parker High School in 1939 and at the age of 17, went to work at South Carolina National Bank to help support her family during World War II. She soon became the first female teller ever at SCNB. It was from her teller window that she caught the eye of young Wofford "Bud" Davis, who applied for a job at the bank just to meet her. After working together a few weeks, they began to date and in six months were married. In 1958, Ruth and Wofford moved with their two daughters to Charlotte, where Ruth joined the marketing department of North Carolina National Bank. She made wonderful friends and enjoyed a long career there until her retirement in 1984. When her health declined in 2000, she joined her daughter Susan in Rocky Mount NC, then in 2007 at the age of 85, she bravely pulled up stakes to accompany Susan to NY. Her sweet nature and gentle wit made her loved wherever she went.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 6 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.
