POUGHKEEPSIE – Ryan Joseph Simpson, 29, a lifelong area resident, died on June 17, 2023.

Born in Newburgh on August 19, 1993, he was the son of Neal Simpson and Elizabeth Comperiati. Ryan graduated from Arlington High School and was employed by Royal Pools in Poughkeepsie.

Ryan loved playing Dungeons and Dragons. He also loved music, even playing in his own band. Recently, he had been working as a guitar teach for kids. Ryan was a true social activist who believed in equality for all and participated in events such as Occupy Poughkeepsie. Ryan was lovingly known as "Patches" due to his talent in making beautiful outfits out of patches. As a young teen, he achieved a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Ryan is survived by his mother, Liz Comperiati; his father, Neal Simpson and his wife Nancy; his brother, Thomas Simpson; his stepsister, Monica Jacobs; his soulmate, Allie Hill; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-5:30pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a celebration of Ryan's life beginning at 5:30pm. The family has asked that everyone wear floral prints to honor Ryan.
