Obituary

MONROE – Salvatore I. Macagnone, 89, a 19-year resident of Orange County, died on August 24, 2021 at Garnet Health Medical Center. He previously lived in the Bronx.

Born in the Bronx on May 21, 1932, Salvatore was the son of the late Anthony and Julia (Mandolin) Macagnone. Salvatore proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a carpenter with the New York City District Council of Carpenters Local #157 for over 40 years until his retirement.

Salvatore enjoyed going to Atlantic City. An avid fan of sports, he loved watching the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and the NJ Devils. He was involved with the Bronx-Chester Little Leagues while his sons were growing up. Most of all, his family will remember him as being a loving and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Salvatore is survived by his sons and their spouses, Michael and Susan Macagnone, Paul and Madeline Macagnone, David and Kathy Macagnone, and Gregory and Nora Macagnone; his grandchildren, Anthony, Paul Jr., Danielle, Stephanie, Jeanine, Michael Scott, David Jr., Christopher, Brittanie, Julianne, and Gregory; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Kenny Jr., Michael, Jason, Michael Anthony, Anthony, Ava, and Dominic; and his sister, Rosemary Bertani.

In addition to his parents, Salvatore was predeceased by his son, Stephen Macagnone; his first wife, Marcelle Macagnone in 2000 and his second wife, Gloria Macagnone in 2019.

Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Monday at 11 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors. Private entombment will be at Ferncliff Cemetery.
