Salvatore Montano, 87, an area resident since 1950, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.
Born in Brooklyn on November 15, 1923, he was the son of Anthony and Josephine Mavaro Montano. He served as a Submariner in the US Navy during World War II and was employed as a Senior Quality Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1988. He attended Mass at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will always be remembered as having a laugh that could fill a room.
On May 5, 1946 in Richmond Hill, Sal married Beulah Rogers who predeceased him on September 5, 1997. He is survived by his children, Kathryn Rasmussen and her husband Paul of Winchester, VA, Susan Petruzzi and her husband Dennis of Unionville, CT, Patricia Hasapis and her husband Lee of Beacon and Gerald Montano of New Paltz; his grandchildren, Eric Rasmussen, Johanna and Bob Harbaugh, Rachel Rasmussen, Rebecca and Tim MacLachlan, Daniel Petruzzi, Alex, Gregory and James Hasapis; his great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Gannon MacLachlan, Jonathan, Charis, Nicholas and Isabela Harbaugh; his sister, Marion Shipley of Northport; his brother, Robert Montano of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Joel Rasmussen; his sister, Nicolina Kirschner; and his brothers, Lawrence, Joseph, Anthony and Raymond Montano.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3 to 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
