Wappingers Falls – Sandra DeBonis, a Wappingers Falls resident, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2023. She was 89.
Daughter of the late Herman and Anne (Rothenberg) Zutkoff, she was born in New York, NY on August 20, 1934.
Sandra was a beloved teacher for 35 years. She worked in the NYC Department of Education in the Bronx and retired in 1991.
Sandra enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She did extensive traveling and loved her New York Yankees. Sandra had many hobbies which included playing mahjong, knitting/needlepoint, reading, and going for a walk.
On June 19, 1955 she married Donald DeBonis. Donald, the love of her life, predeceased her on November 17, 2022.
Sandra is survived by her daughters: Rhonni Vazquez and her husband Jim of Orleans, MA, Lisa DeBonis and her husband Benny Palomba of Wappingers Falls, and Nanci Iovino and her husband Joe of Glen Ridge, NJ; grandchildren: Laura Vazquez of NY, NY, Rachel Vazquez of Washington D.C., Daniel DeBonis of Brooklyn, NY, Andrea DeBonis and her husband Dan Passalacqua of Danbury, CT, and Malorie Iovino of Glen Ridge, NJ.
In addition to her husband she is predeceased by her father Herman in 1971, her mother Anne in 2003 and her brother Harvey Zutkoff in 2002
Calling hours will be held from Thursday December 21, 2023 from 1 – 3 p.m., with a service at 2:30 p.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Inurnment will take place on December 22, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY 10579.
