HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Sandra Jackson, 85, a lifelong resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 16, 2024.
Born in Poughkeepsie on April 21, 1938, Sandra was the daughter of the late John and Doris (Seaman) Ossenkop. On December 28, 1958 in Hopewell Junction, Sandra married Verne Wright Jackson who predeceased her in 2019 after 61 years of marriage.
Verne and Sandra lived a life of service and generosity to others. Sandra served for several years as a member of Wiccopee Fire Company and EMT for the East Fishkill Rescue Squad. She was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church, Shenandoah. She loved playing the piano and used this gift in many facets of ministry. She served selflessly as a teacher over 50 years at Bethel Christian Academy, touching the lives of many students, including her grandchildren.
Sandra will always be remembered as a dedicated and supportive farmer's wife. Sandra, along with Verne, modeled hospitality through countless gatherings and meals. They were known to open their home to people who needed a place to stay. Sandra devoted many hours to Bible reading and prayer for her family and those in need.
She is survived by her children, William (Mary) Jackson, Daniel (Lisa) Jackson, Thomas (Nancy) Jackson, Jenny (Jeffrey) Jackson Howell, and John (Heather) Jackson; her 21 grandchildren, Karla (Sean) Smith, Adam (Ashley) Jackson, Erin (Carl Parow) Jackson, Kevin (Nicole) Jackson, Jessica (Christopher) Blough, Daniel (Rachel) Jackson, Aleasha Jackson, Ashley (Sam) Grant, Carianne (Albert Schwarz) Jackson, Thomas (Christiana) Jackson, Cassandra (Nathaniel) Haefka, Bethany (Dustan) Karschner, Heidi (Zachary) Mowry, Benjamin Howell, Emily (Mitchell) Raup, Anna (Colby) Bonewitz, Kaela (Samuel) Alfaro, Lynsey Jackson, and Johnny Jackson; 17 great-grandchildren, Shane, Angel, Madelynn, Morgan, Mason, Hudson, Lucy, Jackson, Abigail, Tommy, Adeline, Harrison, Lucas, Maverick, Carter, Reagan, and Katelyn; her siblings, John (Bobbi) Ossenkop and Holly Collins; her sister-in-law, Loretta Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sandra was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joann Bate Jackson; and her infant grandchildren, Jonathan and Kate Jackson.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10am at Fishkill Baptist Church, 107 Route 82, Fishkill. Private interment will be in the Shenandoah Cemetery.
