Sandra
Saponaro
November 2, 1944 – August 21, 2025
Sandra Ann (Cohn) Saponaro passed away at Holiday Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie on August 21, 2025. She was 80 years old. Born in New York City on November 2, 1944, Sandra was the daughter of the late Mortimer and Angela (Lauriola) Cohn. On January 12, 1974, she married her beloved husband John Saponaro in the Bronx. They spent many happy years together until his death in 2003.
Sandra worked as a secretary at Borden's Dairy Company for many years. She held other administrative positions through the years until relocating to the Hudson Valley in the late 90s. In retirement, Sandra worked part-time at CVS Pharmacy in Fishkill. She enjoyed going to the Fishkill Recreation Center to socialize and play Bingo with her group of close friends, especially Joanne Miranda. She was a member of a local group called the Gadabouts and enjoyed going on day trips with her friends to many local areas of interest. Sandra volunteered at the Nifty Thrifty Shop in Fishkill. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church.
Sandra was witty and could recall the smallest of details. She was an extremely pleasant woman who loved to make people laugh. She especially loved the music of Paul Anka and had a lifelong affinity for butterflies. She had many pieces of jewelry adorned with them. Although Sandra did not have children of her own, she was a proud Aunt and Great-Aunt. She never missed a family party nor the opportunity to celebrate the special milestones of her family. Sandra cherished her relationships and remained in contact with two of her childhood friends from East Harlem, Camille Muscatella and Geri Hofler.
Sandra will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including and especially: her brother Harold Cohn of Beacon; her nieces and nephews: Laurie Colantuono and her husband Mario of Pleasant Valley, Lisa Simmons and her husband Jeff of LaGrange, Paul Cohn of Beacon, Nicole Cohn of Wappingers Falls, and Frank Franco of Windsor, Connecticut; and her great-nieces and great-nephews: Vincent and Franco Colantuono, Miranda Hankinson and her husband Owen, Dylan and Evan Simmons, and Paul and Grace Cohn. Sandra was recently predeceased by her sister-in-law, Arlene Cohn.
The family would like to thank the staff at Holiday Manor at Woodside (especially Mariana and her team) and HealthQuest Homecare for their time, care, and attention extended toward Sandra in her last few months of life.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 27, 2025, from 10 am - 12 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill 1089 Main St. Fishkill, NY. A Funeral Service will begin at 12pm, followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
