HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Sean P. Lynch, 67, an area resident since 1984, died after a long illness on December 15, 2021 surrounded by his family at the Pines at Poughkeepsie. He previously lived in Pleasantville.
Born in Manhattan on August 25, 1954, Sean was the son of the late Michael and Maura (Flavin) Lynch. He was employed by Consolidated Edison for over 43 years until his retirement in 2019. Proud of his Irish heritage, Sean was the Drum Major during his time at Iona College and continued to be part of other pipe bands after college.
Sean was a devoted parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a past board member of the Parish Council. As the co-chair of the hospitality committee, parishioners always looked forward to seeing him at bagels on Sunday and dressed as Santa Claus at the annual Breakfast with Santa.
Sean was also active with the Boy Scouts of America and was a proud father of two Eagle Scouts. He was a former Cub Master of Pack #227 and volunteered with Troop #86.
In November 1984, Sean married Karen (Murphy) Lynch who survives at home. He is also survived by his two sons, Michael Lynch and his significant other Sarah Meyerdierks of Hopewell Junction and Conor Lynch of Geneseo; his siblings and their spouses, Padraig and Linda Lynch and Cay and John Carroll; his mother-in-law, M. Violet Murphy; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Kevin Murphy and Brian and Laura Murphy; many cousins in Ireland; and his nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephew. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his father-in-law, John Murphy.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th and 6th floors of Vassar Brothers Medical Center especially Dr. Hector Ojeda-Martinez, MD, Brigitte Stauder, RNC, MS, the staff of Hudson Valley Hospice, the staff of the 5th floor at the Pines at Poughkeepsie, and the staff at New York Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery. The family asks that everyone wear masks.
