STORMVILLE – Sharon Ann Filippini, 72, a lifelong area resident, died on December 31, 2023 at the Hudson Valley Hospice House.
Born in Poughkeepsie on March 7, 1951, she was the daughter of the late George and Thelma (Van Anden) Speedling. Sharon was a graduate of Carmel High School. She was a business owner with her husband of Hopewell Hardware in Hopewell Junction for over 15 years, and later of Express Depot in Fishkill for over 20 years.
Sharon was a life member of Hopewell Hose Company. She had also served as the treasurer for Troop 1, Boy Scouts of America in Carmel for many years. She was a member and Past Chapter Regent of Melzingah Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as a senior leader for Highland Pass Society, Children of the American Revolution. She was an avid cook and lover of American history, from diving into the evolution of the American flag, to researching antiques and family history, to helping to restore the Madam Brett Homestead.
On August 28, 1971 in Carmel, Sharon married Robert Henry "Bob" Filippini, who predeceased her on March 28, 2020. She is survived by her son Jeffrey and wife Heather (Rose); her son Johnathan and wife Christina (Cherra); her grandchildren, Alyssa and Henry; and her sister Linda and husband Gordon Yarema.
On Saturday, January 6, 2024, there will be a joint Memorial Service to celebrate the lives of both Sharon and Bob at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Calling hours will be held from 10-11am with a service at 11am.
Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, East Fishkill Rescue Squad, or the Madam Brett Homestead.
