Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Sharon Ritchie, 66, formerly of Yonkers, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born in Yonkers, NY, on March 8, 1960, to the late William and Catherine Fitzgerald.

On June 25, 1983, in Mt. Kisco, she married Joseph A. Ritchie. Sharon worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at Reader's Digest, but she found her greatest fulfillment in caring for her home and raising her children.

Sharon looked forward to the arrival of spring each year, when she could spend time gardening in her yard. She loved the beach, swimming in her pool, and enjoying sunny days. She had a natural eye for design and took great pride in fixing up and beautifying her home, often saying she would have loved to pursue a career in interior design.

Sharon had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog Ginger, who passed away years ago but always held a special place in her heart. She was passionate about staying informed on current events and politics, and she enjoyed listening to music and podcasts. She also loved watching television and movies, always eager to discover new favorites recommended by family and friends. Sharon had a unique sense of style and a lifelong love of fashion, taking great joy in dressing up for special occasions.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph A. Ritchie; her children, Joseph R. Ritchie of Reston, VA, and Shawna L. Ritchie and Dylan T. Ritchie of Hopewell Junction, NY; as well as her four siblings. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her for her devotion as a wife, her warmth and care as a mother, and her steadfast friendship.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 30th from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 . A Mass will be offered for Sharon, 10:00 am, Friday, May 1st at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction followed by her entombment in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Sharon to the American Lung Association or Humane World for Animals.
