Shelby Arndis Genualdo, a lifelong local area resident, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 29, 2022 at home in Wappingers Falls. She was 27.
Shelby was born in Poughkeepsie on January 7, 1995. In 2013, she graduated from Arlington High School, where she played violin in the school orchestra. She began her college studies at Dutchess Community College before enrolling at SUNY New Paltz, graduating in 2021 with a degree in criminal justice.
Shelby was a well-rounded individual who developed many skills and talents throughout her lifetime; with a steadfast passion for horticulture and gardening, she worked for Sabellico Greenhouses & Florist as well as Adams Fairacre Farms. She loved animals and went out of her way to foster, rehabilitate, and find homes for countless stray pets. As a creative person, Shelby was an excellent artist and violinist. Shelby had a high aptitude for learning and picked up new skills very quickly, taking interest in architecture, mechanics and automotive systems, needlework, design and other hobbies that require a high level of passion and skill.
Shelby will be remembered for her compassionate, generous, and thoughtful spirit. She always put the needs of others before her own and went out of her way to lend a hand. Whether it was the delivery of a meaningful gift, saving a kitten, or volunteering for the Crisis Hotline, Shelby dedicated her life to good works. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her mother, Carole (DiNardo) Genualdo; her father, Michael Genualdo; her grandmother, Arndis Sigurdurdottir; her sister, Brianna Wiesenthal & her husband Michael; her sister, Kaycee Genualdo; her brother, Michael Genualdo; her nieces, Charli and Carsyn; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives & friends.
Shelby was predeceased by three of her grandparents, Amerigo DiNardo, Barbara DiNardo, and Larry Genualdo.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. immediately following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, plants are welcomed, so that her memory can live on in the way she enjoyed spending her time.
