Dr. Shelley Barbara Love, a resident of New Windsor for more than 20 years and formerly of Hopewell Junction and New York City, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Luke's Cornwall Montefiore Hospital in Newburgh. She was 71.
Daughter of the late Harry W. Love and Irene G. Balberg, she was born in the Bronx on February 6, 1951. Shelley graduated from Rutgers University and earned her doctorate from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She studied abroad as the only woman from her school in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where she completed her studies and dissertation.
Shelley worked as a labor arbitrator and contract negotiator for several law enforcement agencies throughout the Hudson Valley, including Troop K of the New York State Police, the Town of Fishkill Police Department, and the Highland Falls Police Department. She also taught as an adjunct professor for Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh and Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie. Dr. Love will be remembered for the long-lasting impact she made on the lives of countless students.
She was an avid animal lover and always cared for her pets, especially her cats & kittens.
Survivors include her son, Zach Ciraolo and his partner Oriana of Wappingers Falls; her grandsons, Giovanni and Landon; her brother, Robert E. Love; in addition to many other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by her parents as well as her son, Jake Ciraolo, and her brother, Alan Lance Love.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Cemetery services will be private with burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
