Obituary

BEACON - Shirley A. (Travis) Laffin, 71, of Beacon, passed away on Friday December 24, 2021, in her home. Born November 27, 1950 and raised in Cold Spring, Shirley was the daughter of the late Delbert W. Travis Sr. and Rose Cable. Nicknamed "Tootsie," she retired after working for many years at the Dorel Hat Co. and Walmart. On October 11,1986, she married Lawrence Laffin and was his pride and joy for 35 years. Together, Shirley and Larry would cheer on the NY Yankees. She was a homebody who enjoyed old movies and actors, especially White Christmas. Shirley was happy doing word puzzles and crafts, especially knitting and crocheting. As a squealing teen during the Beatlemania craze, she became a lifelong fan of the Beatles collecting memorabilia throughout the years. Shirley was an animal lover who made sure when "her" woodland animals visited, there were some snacks in the yard. Their dog, Heidi, and cats, Morris and Toby were always at her side. Shirley's family and friends will always remember her loving and generous nature. She had a heart of gold. Shirley is survived by her sisters and brother, Marie (Alfred) Guadagno, Carol (Duke) Gorey, Barbara (Chuck) Shabani, Margaret Daniels, Delbert W. (Susan) Travis Jr.; her in-laws Rene'(Steve) Ridge, Timmy (Wanda) Laffin, Rhonda Laffin (Wendy VanVlack), Keith Laffin (Ed Bakter), and Debby Swenson; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by their daughter Jennifer Rose Laffin, her stepfather Charlie Cable, her sister Elinor Joyce Kriezes, and in-laws Bruce Daniels, Linda (Paul) Manzo and Reed Swenson. Visitation will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill on January 15, 2022 from 2-4 pm with a service in the funeral home at 3:30pm.
