Obituary


Shirley G. Rumsey, 89, a resident of Dutchess County since 1953, formerly of Elmira, died on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at The Elant in Wappingers Falls.
Born in Genoa, NY on April 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late E. LaSell and Laura Kratzer Palmer.  During WWII, she assisted in manufacturing bombs for the Norden Bomb Factory in Elmira.  From 1963 to 2009, she worked as a sales associate for Avon Products, Inc, and became a charter member of Avon President's Awards Club.
Shirley was formerly a member of the Poughquag United Methodist Church.  She was also a past member of the Beekman Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary and volunteered as an Assistant Den Mother for the Cubscouts.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Rumsey of Wappingers Falls & his partner John Scibran; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Rumsey of Florida; grandchildren, Bunnie Short & her husband Timothy of Cohocton, NY, and Brian Rumsey & his wife Colleen of White Plains, MD; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Josh, Elyssa & Kali Short and Jordan & Grace Rumsey.
Shirley was predeceased by her son, Raymond Rumsey, in 2003.
Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  The funeral service will begin at 5 p.m. immediately following calling hours.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
