Sonja Iversen Horend, 86, a resident of Fishkill, passed peacefully at home on December 18, 2020 in the loving presence of her family.

Sonja was born in Bergen, Norway and immigrated to the United States when she was 18 years old. She married and had 2 children she adored. She was predeceased by her mother, Erna Nilsen and her sister Ruth Knapp. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kristine and son-in-law James DeSalvo; her son, James Horend Jr.; her brother and sister-in-law Finn and Vivian Nilsen; her best friend Ellen Alperstein; her "adopted" daughters, Penny Schouten, Debbie and Amy Alperstein, and Geri Mortensen; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families.

She was a light in the life of all who knew her. She was an amazing Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend. She loved her family, friends, animals and flowers and was surrounded by them always. She loved music and food and consumed them voraciously. A celebration of her life will take place with every beautiful memory in the hearts of all those who loved her.
