POUGHKEEPSIE – Sophie M. Carmalitano, 81, formerly of Beacon and Hopewell Junction, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Pines at Poughkeepsie.

Born in Beacon on December 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Loretta (Seeley) Slinskey. On July 16, 1949 at St. John's Church in Beacon, she married Vito P. Carmalitano. Mr. Carmalitano predeceased her on September 29, 2003.

Sophie was employed as a Nurse's Aide at the Craig House in Beacon for over 20 years until her retirement in 1971.

She is survived by her children, Vito Carmalitano and his wife Deborah of Wappingers Falls, Michael Carmalitano and his wife Deborah of Poughquag, and Jinny Carmalitano and her boyfriend Scott Schreibman of Hyde Park; her grandchildren, Vito, Jr., Michael, Deborah, Lisa, Stephanie, William, and Tyler; 7 great-grandchildren; and she was looking forward to welcoming two additional great-grandchildren this year.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice, Inc. and the Pines at Poughkeepsie, especially Cynthia, for their care and compassion.

The funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.
