Obituary

Sophie Dziuk, a Staten Island resident since 1984, died on Thursday, February 5 at Staten Island University Hospital. She was 86.
Daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Smith) Krewko, she was born in Old Forge, PA on March 5, 1928. On August 28, 1949, she married Walter Dziuk in Manhattan. They lived in Brooklyn for many years, where they owned and operated Walter's Delicatessen, a deli in Bay Ridge.
Sophie worked for some time as a seamstress but enjoyed most of her life as a homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lisi & her husband Frank of Staten Island; her daughter, Linda Carvalhido & her husband Michael of Freehold, NJ; her son, Peter Dziuk & his wife Julie of Staten Island; her son, Michael Dziuk & his wife Joanne of Belle Harbor; her grandchildren, Stephanie McHoul & her husband Doug, Michael Carvalhido & his wife Kristina, Peter Dziuk, Alexandra Lisi, Eric Dziuk, Raina Dziuk, and Shannon Dziuk; her great-grandchildren, Madelyn & Nolan McHoul; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter on December 16, 1984.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11 at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd., Staten Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 12 at Our Lady of Pity Church, 1616 Richmond Ave., Staten Island. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens.
