Stanley Brumer, 88, a resident of Fishkill for more than 40 years, died at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
Born in New York City on November 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Morris and Sylvia Hershkowitz Brumer. A proud World War II Veteran, he served in the Pacific Theatre as a Tech. Sergeant for the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his honorable discharge from service in 1945, he enrolled in the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. Stanley worked as a pharmacist for over 50 years.
For many years, he was an active member of the 8th Fighter Group Air Force Association and traveled across the country to attend many reunions with his fellow Veterans. With the Literacy Volunteers of America, Stanley helped immigrants learn English in order to assist them with the naturalization process and becoming U.S. Citizens. He also volunteered at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park.
On August 19, 1984, he married Susan Prettyleaf-Wagner in Hopewell Junction.
Mrs. Brumer survives at home. Stanley is also survived by his son, Robert Brumer & his wife Christine of Morristown, TN; his son, Daniel Brumer & his wife Elizabeth of Jupiter, FL; his son, Michael Brumer of Antioch, TN; his stepdaughter, Natalie Thorsen & her husband Chris of Wappingers Falls; his stepson, Eric Wagner & his wife Susan of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Lauren Brumer of Morristown, TN, Daniela & Victoria Brumer of Jupiter, FL, Dana Thorsen of Wappingers Falls and Sara & Andrew Wagner of Fishkill; his brother, Richard Brumer & his wife Carol of Jupiter, FL; also many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Math in 2011.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, followed by interment with Military Honors at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
