Stanley Greenwald, a sixty year resident of Fishkill and formerly of Brooklyn died at home on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. He was 87.
Born in Brooklyn on March 6, 1924, he was the son of the late David and Bessie Dobrin Greenwald. Following his graduation from James Madison High School, Stanley enlisted in the US Army during World War II where he served as an airplane mechanic. In 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Army as a Corporal. Stanley then attended St. John's University in Queens where he earned his BS Degree in Pharmacy.
Stanley moved to Dutchess County in 1952. Over time, in conjunction with several business partners, he opened many pharmacies in the local area including Fishkill Pharmacy, Hopewell Pharmacy, Lemar Pharmacy in Wappingers Falls and Butterfield Pharmacy in Cold Spring. He continued his involvement with the stores up to the 1990s.
Stanley attended Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh. He had a passion for WWII era music and collected vinyl records. He was an avid reader of biographies and enjoyed old movies as well. Stanley's family and friends will surely miss his wonderful sense of humor, his intriguing stories and his mystifying magic tricks.
On December 29, 1973 in Fishkill, he married Bette Hagar. Mrs. Greenwald survives at home.
Additional survivors include his son, Donald Greenwald of Poughkeepsie; his son, Robert Greenwald & his wife Christina of Newburgh; his son, Todd Greenwald & his wife Karen of Montclair, NJ; and his grandsons, Owen, Gabriel and Joshua.
Stanley was predeceased by his sister, Theda Emanuel.
A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Friday at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill with Rabbi Larry Freedman officiating. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their home in Fishkill beginning at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. A prayer service will be held at 7pm on Saturday evening.
