Obituary

FISHKILL – Stanley John Levandowski, Jr., age 73, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 after a long illness.

He was born February 19, 1949 in Middletown, NY to the late Stanley and Josephine (Guarino) Levandowski. Survivors include his loving wife, Susan; daughter, Amy Montes and her husband Jose of Marlboro, NY; and daughter Holly Herring and her husband Joseph of New Paltz, NY. He leaves behind grandchildren Joshua, Camille, Joey, and Melanie; sisters Monica Edelstein (Russell), Cynthia Hines (Jimmy), and Mary Smith (Alex), all of Maryland; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Stan graduated from John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen, NY and served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Dutchess Community College, Nyack College, and earned his M.B.A. from Long Island University. He retired from IBM Corporation in 1992 where he held various technical and management positions and then returned to Nyack College where he was a Primary Instructor in the Organizational Management Program for 17 years.

Among his many interests, Stan was an avid private pilot who built and flew his own experimental aircraft. He was involved in the development of Old Orchard Airpark in Modena and served as a past president. Stan was also an amateur "ham" radio operator and made many friends all around the world in over 60 years of operating. He published a number of technical articles in amateur radio journals, and posted several videos to his YouTube channel "Stanscoyote". Stan was a life member of the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum and served as a tour guide aboard the museum ship USS Slater in Albany. He was also a member of the radio restoration crew aboard the ship.

In his youth, Stan learned to play clarinet which led to a lifelong passion for music. He had a fond appreciation for the folk genre and military band music.

Stan was a member of local amateur radio clubs, the American Legion, and the USS Boxer Veterans Organization.

But, most of all, Stan treasured time spent with his family – quiet times with his wife, helping his children with various projects and watching his grandchildren grow and learn.

Stan leaves behind his beloved dog Dixie, and was predeceased by his other pets Cocoa and Penny. Because he was a lifelong supporter of animal causes and an ardent dog lover, Stan would have been so pleased if, in lieu of flowers, donations are made in his memory to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 (www.dcspca.org).

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 23 at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 24 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
