Obituary

Stanley J. Kasper, 62 of Hopewell Junction, died peacefully at home on July 9 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Yonkers on July 11, 1958, he was the son of the late Stanley J. and Frances P. Kasper (Buckley).

Stan enlisted in his beloved Marine Corps in 1984, spending time as a Military Police officer stationed at Parris Island, Camp Lejeune, and Okinawa before being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1988. He married the love of his life, Grace Ponciano on February 15, 1986. Upon return to civilian life, Stan decided to continue his public service by joining the Yonkers Police Department where he served with honor for 23 years until his retirement in 2013. Stan was immensely proud of his time in uniform and continued to look for ways to serve for the good in retirement. Stan volunteered at the Castle Point VA Medical Center and went out of his way to assist the widows and children of Marines who needed help getting back on their feet during his time in leadership of the Marine Corps League.

While his larger-than-life presence may have intimidated those who didn't know him (and a future son-in-law), Stan was a teddy bear with his grandchildren and a family man in the truest sense of the word. Seeing the joy in Stan during trips to the Outer Banks will forever hold a place in the heart of those who experienced it, and there is no doubt that he is kicked back with his toes in the sand and his fishing rod in his hand wherever he is now. A constant purchaser and tinkerer of anything with an engine, it was never a surprise to find a new car in the driveway for him to tool around with or a lawnmower that he was fixing up for a buddy. Friends and family knew that if they needed help they could turn to Stan, and if he gave his word he meant it.

He is survived by his devoted wife Grace of 35 years, son Shaun (Katie) of Troy, NY, daughter Melissa (Benjamin) Parsons of Niskayuna, NY, and his three loving grandchildren Owen Joseph Parsons, Brayden Joseph Kasper, and Nora Elizabeth Parsons. They, along with many family members and friends, will forever miss him.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 13, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 14 10am at St. Columba Church 835 NY-82, Hopewell Junction, NY.
