CORTLANDT MANOR – Stephen J. Bondra, Jr., 64, of Cortlandt Manor and formerly of Peekskill and Wappingers Falls, died on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Peekskill on February 10, 1947, he was the son of Stephen and Pauline Gallucci Bondra, Sr.
Stephen retired in 1996 after working for 30 years for General Motors in Tarrytown. He was a member of Assumption Church in Peekskill and was a volunteer at the firehouse on Washington Street in Peekskill.
Stephen played basketball for the Lakeland High School Adult League. He loved hunting, playing basketball, and golfing at Dogwood Knolls in Hopewell Junction.
He is survived by his children, Karla Boonstra and her husband Thomaso Wallkill, Erika Bondra of Poughkeepsie, Elizabeth "Libby" Bondra of Beacon, and Jenna Carpenter and her husband Joseph of Beacon; his twin sister, Stephanie Bondra Volk Merritt of Beacon; his grandchildren, Mark Graff, Kayla Bondra, and Amber and Ty Carpenter; his nephews, Joseph and Stephen Volk; his former wife, Suzanne Bondra; and his girlfriend, Theresa Chiola.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by the funeral service at 7p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
