EAST FISHKILL –Stephen Anthony Kowalski, 85, a lifelong resident of East Fishkill, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at home.
Born on January 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Adolph and Frances Lewandowski Kowalski. In 1969, he married Angela Cannizzaro in Hopewell Junction. Mrs. Kowalski survives at home.
Stephen served as a Seabee in the US Navy during World War II, and was stationed at Samar, Philippines. A member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Stephen worked as a Steamfitter Foreman for most of his life for Local 21 in Peekskill until his retirement.
He was a great handyman who loved the outdoors, especially fishing, golfing, and hunting. He enjoyed gardening and grew many vegetables, and was known to have a green thumb. He loved animals, and often brought stray dogs home and assisted in finding permanent homes for them. Most of all, he loved and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his children, Dr. Michael Kowalski and his wife Dr. Margaret Hunter of Arizona, Anne Marie Aliotta and her husband Vincent of New Hampshire, Margaret "Peggy" Pazereckis of Hopewell Junction, and Walter Kowalski of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Aliotta of Texas, Paul Aliotta and his fiancé Stefanie Grasso of Massachusetts, Elizabeth Aliotta of New Hampshire, Rory Kowalski of Hopewell Junction, and Amber Kowalski of Hopewell Junction; his brother Walter Kowalczyk and his wife Theresa of New Hampshire; many loving nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
