LAGRANGEVILLE – Stephen W. Price, Sr., 62, a lifelong resident of LaGrangeville, died on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born in Poughkeepsie on February 22, 1950, he was the son of the late Clinton and Shirley (Becker) Price. On December 13, 1969 at St. Andrew's Church in Poughkeepsie, he married Candice Volkali, his high school sweetheart, who survives at home. They were married for 42 years.

Stephen proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He was hired by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office in 1972 as a Deputy Sherriff. Stephen was promoted to Detective in 1986 and served on the Juvenile Bureau. In 1987, he was reassigned to the Dutchess County Drug Task Force at its formation. After many undercover cases, he was then reassigned to the Criminal Division. He was trained in hostage negotiations, crime scene techniques, and advanced interviewing techniques. He had been working on a high profile homicide case when he was injured in the line of duty, forcing him to retire. In 2011, he retired from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office after 39 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed restoring hot rods, especially his pride, a 1972 Chevy Bel Air, which he restored to its original state, a Sherriff's car. Stephen was a memorabilia collector, in particular gas stations, Halloween items, and movies. He enjoyed vacationing in Maine and loved his dogs. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his children, Bill Price and his wife Cindy of Suffolk, VA, Tracy Price of LaGrangeville, and Stephen Price, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Poughquag; his several grandchildren; and his brother, Jeffrey Price of New Paltz. He was predeceased by his sister, Judy Badgley in 2008.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Clove Cemetery with military honors.
