Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Steve Kopchik, Jr., 82, an area resident since 1970 and formerly of Hastings-on-Hudson, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at home.

Born in Hastings-on-Hudson on June 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Steve and Helen (Seaman) Kopchik, Sr. On May 22, 1955 at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church in Yonkers, he married Agnes Pleva Kopchik who survives at home.

Steve proudly served our country in the Unites States Army and was a Korean War Combat Veteran. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 144 at Castle Point and had served as the chapter commander. He was also a member of the VFW in Hastings-on-Hudson and Beacon.

He had been employed as a Specialty Wire and Cable Engineer for Tensolite Corporation in Buchanan for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. Steve had been a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, and had coached Little League Baseball for many years.

Steve was a dedicated and selfless caregiver to his beloved wife for the eight last years. In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, Steve is survived by his sons and their wives, Steve and Tracey Kopchik of Hopewell Junction, Mark and Carolyn Kopchik of LaGrange, and Ronald and Julie Kopchik of Burlington Township, NJ; his granddaughters, Katie, Christa, Colleen, and Lauren Kopchik; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Lash.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
