Dr. Steven A. McCormick Obituary
Dr. Steven Andrew McCormick, 64 of Bedford Corners, NY passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023.
He was born on June 2, 1959 in Logan, WV, the son of the late Clarence Okey McCormick and Ernestine Estep McCormick. He graduated from Logan High School, and went on to receive a B.S. in Zoology and Linguistics from Duke University. While in college, he researched lemurs at Duke's Lemur Center, and he was the only non-music major to have a key to Duke's Flentrop Organ. He then received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine. Before retiring, Steven was a world renowned ocular pathologist and the Director of Pathology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan for 25 years.
Known as a brilliant renaissance man, Steven was an accomplished organist, pianist, chef, choir and acapella director. He was a skilled architectural enthusiast, who was instrumental in the design and construction of the Chabad of Bedford synagogue, as well as his own homes in Kent, CT and Bedford, NY. A member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church before his move to Bedford, he was a substitute organist there as well as in various churches in Litchfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jacque Sue Snyder.
Steven is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marci Stearns McCormick, daughter Emma, son Benjamin, and his brother David McCormick (Judy) of Logan, West Virginia who owns and operates the McCormick's Department Store founded by the family in 1936.
A memorial service to honor the life of Dr. McCormick was held on Sunday, December 10th at the Chabad of Bedford in Bedford, NY and he was interred at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Mausoleum in Sleepy Hollow, NY with Father Hal Roark officiating.
