Our beloved Steven John Paveglio passed away peacefully at Greenwich Hospital on April 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 62 years old.
Steven was born on September 5, 1960, in New Rochelle, New York. In his early years, Steven was a US Marine. He retired from NYPD as Captain after 20 years of service, and later retired from the United States Mint Police (USMP) as Lieutenant. Steven was a member of the NYC PBA, Captain's Endowment Association, and Famee Furlane of NA Club. He was the President of FLEOA Chapter 6 and the Secretary for Associazione Nazionale Della Polizia di Stato.
Steven was predeceased by his parents, Giovanni and Mary Paveglio.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Linda Paveglio, his loving daughter Ashley Lynn van Eck and son-in-law, Joris van Eck, his beautiful granddaughter Sofia, and his adored grand puppy, Remi. Steven is also survived by his brother Anthony Paveglio and sister-in-law Antoinette; niece Christina Paveglio and Anibal, grand-nephew Enzo, and his nephew Anthony Paveglio. Also survived by many extended family members and cousins: Helen and Wayne Mauro; nephews Lee and his wife Erin, Nicholas and his wife Amanda and their son Mason, and his niece Samantha. Cousins Lou and his wife Sherry Felice; nephews Thomas and fiancé Julie, Mark, and Anthony. His very special kinship with Etorre Serrano and Billy Gianesses, and many other close cousins he adored, as well as wonderful friends that became family.
Steven took great pride in his Italian heritage and was a dual citizen of Italy. He was a voracious reader and history buff, and loved a good cup of coffee, his talk radio shows, and being a world traveler, especially to Italy and France. He enjoyed his nightly Jeopardy and knew more answers than most contestants.
He cherished his extended family and their many gatherings, shared stories, and conversations. He was very family oriented and the happiest spending time with the loved ones in his life. He adored his latest role as a Nonno to his granddaughter Sofia; the time spent with her brought him the greatest joy. He will be remembered fondly as a treasured and loving husband, father, Nonno, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Even in the face of his own struggles, Steven remained a steadfast friend and confidant to everyone he knew during his heroic journey to finding peace with his illness. There are no words to express the void he has left in this world or how deeply he will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Steven J. Paveglio to the Lustgarten Foundation to support pancreatic cancer research.
