POUGHQUAG - Susan Claire Mitchell, 64, a resident of Poughquag for nearly 40 years, died on Friday, July 29th, 2011 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 26th, 1946, she was the daughter of Dorothy Elinor Nielson Robinson. On April 23rd, 1972 in Scarsdale NY, Susan married Edward L. Mitchell who predeceased her on May 25th, 2003.

She was employed by White Plains Hospital as a Lactation Consultant until 2009. Susan was an active member of the Hopewell Reformed Church and the Hospital Based Lactation Consultants. She enjoyed painting, basket weaving, gardening, coaching, community service, lamaze, working with new breast-feeding moms, teaching, biking, the sea and lighthouses. Susan had a large heart and truly enjoyed giving back to her family, friends, and community. She devoted much of her life to caring for her husband Ed.

Susan is survived by her sister, Lyn Rockhill; daughters and their spouses: Katina and Robert Swan and Serena and Rahul Shah; son and his spouse: Wesley and Carla Mitchell; and 2 grandchildren: Katie and Robby Swan.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday August 2nd from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 3rd at 11:00 am at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in the Beekman Cemetery.
