STORMVILLE - Susan T. Poka-Garces, 54, an area resident of 10 years, died at home surrounded by her family on May 9, 2025 after a 3-year courageous battle with ALS. She previously lived in Warwick.

Born in Syosset, Long Island on May 13, 1970, Susan was the daughter of the late Arthur and Barbara (Ogden) Valerie. She earned her master's degree in psychology from St. John's University in Queens where she was an honor student and a member of their Division I Women's Soccer Team. She was a country music enthusiast, Disney lover and an exceptional soccer player. She also enjoyed exercising and was a "calisthenics guru".

Susan was employed as a psychologist for the Monroe Woodbury School District for over 30 years. She was a parishioner at St. Kateri Church in LaGrangeville.

On July 16, 2016 at St. Kateri Church, Susan married John G. Garces who survives at home. She is also survived by her sons, Daniel Poka, Matthew Poka, Benjaman Poka, and Alejandro Garces; as well as the extended Garces family and countless others close to her heart.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 12th from 4 - 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Tuesday, May 13th at 10 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville.
