Swissa M. Canillas, 87, died at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
Throughout her lifetime, Swissa lived in the Philippines, Pomona, NY, Ghana, West Africa and Cold Spring, NY.
Born in the Philippines on May 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Mateo and Flavieta Barraquias Maribao.
Swissa worked as Chief Pharmacist for Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a founding member of Citadel Church in the Philippines.
Her husband, Luis Canillas, predeceased her in 1988. She was also predeceased by her son Adonis Canillas in 2008 and many siblings in the Philippines.
She is survived by her son, Luisito Canillas & his wife Grace of New City; her daughter, Lana Canillas of Cold Spring; her son, Dr. Elmo Canillas of Secaucus, NJ; her daughter-in-law, Del Canillas of Maryland; her grandchildren, Louie, Lea, Greg, Alana, Brent & his wife Jennifer, Brandon, Ashley, Justin, Katrina, Stephen and Cristian; her great-grandsons, Brycen and Liam; her sister, Senona Maribao of California; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives, extended family and friends.
Calling Hours will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5 at the First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown, 10 Academy Street, Cold Spring, with Rev. Leslie Mott officiating. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
