Tara Anne Scofield, 49, a lifelong area resident, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. Her strength and fight will remain an inspiration forever.

Born in Rhinebeck on August 13, 1965, she was the daughter of Douglas McGaughey and Geraldine Christiana. Tara was a graduate of Dutchess Community College and was a registered nurse at the Wound Care Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was an active member of Community Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the head of Christian Education. She enjoyed reading, watching General Hospital, and guiding family and friends through life. More than anything, she loved her husband, children and family.

Tara was happily married for 25 years to Richard Scofield who survives at home. She is also survived by her children, Alexis, Kaela and Joseph Scofield; her mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Jerry Scharff of Deerfield Beach, FL; her siblings and their spouses, Kevin and Kelly McGaughey of Ashburn, VA, Keith and Maria McGaughey of Poughquag, Krista and Bernie Dillon of Poughkeepsie; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Frank Nuite of FL; her sisters-in-law, Annie Nuite of Hopewell Junction, Bridget Hulling and her husband Clete of Brenham, TX; and her nieces and nephews, Kevin, Blake, Bria, Gianna, Kainen, Ayden, Ethan, Hunter, Steven, Jenna, Taylor, Brianna and Conor. Tara was also loved by her aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 10am to 1pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be at 1pm with Rev. William Dalrymple officiating. Interment will follow in St. Denis Cemetery.
