Thelma Ella Turner, age 95, of Hopewell Junction, passed into Heaven on April 28, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1928, in Poughkeepsie where she raised one son.
Thelma was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and a graduate of Harlem Valley School of Nursing where she was valedictorian of her class. She later attended NYSU and New Paltz State Teacher College.
Thelma worked for New York State for 42 years, later retiring in 1988. She was a member of NYSNA, St. Columba Church, and the seniors at the East Fishkill Community Center. She loved doing all kinds of arts and crafts, cake decorating, sewing, and numerous puzzles.
She married Donald J. Turner on September 9, 1951. He predeceased her in death on February 18, 1968. She was also predeceased in death by her granddaughter Brittany Lynn on April 5, 1988.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her son Donald John Turner and his wife Karen; grandchildren Donald John Turner III, Stephen Turner, and Allyson Turner; one great-grandson Caleb Turner; three step-grandchildren Nicole and her husband Richard Sapienza, Corinne, and her husband Mark Chadwell, as well as Joseph and his wife Casey Cauchi; six step-great-grandchildren, Shane Benson, Alyssa, Angelina and Richard Sapienza, Joseph, and Emma Cauchi.
Friends and relatives may visit on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a service at 7:30pm. A burial will be held at a later date.
