Obituary

Thelma Elaine Wiley, a longtime resident of Fishkill, N.Y., passed away on June 29, 2025, in Montclair, N.J. She was 102.

Daughter of the late Marx D. Heller and Bessie Edith Hallman Hudson, she was born in York Springs, Pa., on December 27, 1922. She grew up during the Great Depression on a farm near Gettysburg, Pa. Thelma graduated as valedictorian from Biglerville High School and then received a bachelor's degree in education from Temple University. She later earned a master's degree in nutrition from Penn State University, which is where she would meet her future husband.

Thelma married Morris Allen Wiley on September 11, 1948, in Mount Tabor, Pa. The couple moved to Newark, Del., where she worked for DuPont doing research, while her husband attended graduate school. Her husband got a job at Texaco in Beacon, N.Y., and they settled in Fishkill where they raised their family. Thelma was a devoted homemaker and caring mother to her children as they were growing up. She was predeceased by her husband on March 8, 1977.

She was a member of the Fishkill United Methodist Church and volunteered in several of the church's ministry groups. Her hobbies included reading, playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, and gardening. She was also a loving grandmother who was very dedicated to her grandchildren and had an immeasurable place in their lives.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine C. Stalzer; her son, Dean H. Wiley & his wife Paula; her son, Mark A. Wiley & his wife Mary; her grandchildren: Emily Hittle & her husband Tim; Azlyn Wheeldon & her husband Ian; James Milliner & his wife Laura; Leela Stalzer; Amy Stalzer; Christopher Wiley & his wife Christina; Anne Goldsmith & her husband Aaron; Andrew Wiley; Kyle Wiley & his wife Eugenia; Thomas Wiley & his wife Stacey; and John Wiley & his wife Ariana; her great-grandchildren: Henry, Leo, Oliver, Jude, Iris, Layna, Quinn, Mattea, Sadie, and Everett; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless other loving relatives & friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Thelma was also predeceased by her four siblings: Marx D. Heller, Jr. & his wife Janet, Donald L. Heller & his wife Treva, Clair E. Heller, and Mary M. Bruno & her husband Carmen.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Fishkill United Methodist Church, 38 Broad Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
