Obituary

Theodore A. Winter, 89, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1952 and formerly of Narrowsburg, died on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at his home.


Born in Germany on April 9, 1920, he was the son of Henry and Freida Winter.  He proudly served our country as a Private First Class in the US Army during World War II in Battery C, 377th Parachute Field Artillery.  He was a member of Paratroop 75 MM Gun Section in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany where he made jumps from C-47 aircraft and gliders and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.  For more than 30 years, he was employed as a machinist for IBM in Poughkeepsie until his retirement in 1980.  He was a member of the Hughsonville Fire Department and the Germania Hall and enjoyed golfing, camping and hunting.
In 1974, Ted married Mary Crimmins who predeceased him on March 11, 2001.  He is survived by his children, Sita Winter of Sullivan, ME, Arlene McClay of Mount Airy, NC, Judy Winter of Poughkeepsie, Susan Mulford of Poughkeepsie, Bruce Winter of Wappingers Falls, Donald McPhee of Denver, CO and Virginia McPhee of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Elsie Reissler; his brother, Arthur Winter; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son, Eric Winter, in 1999 and by his grandson, Bruce Sky Winter, in 2004.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by interment in Glen Cove Cemetery, Narrowsburg with military honors.
