HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Theresa A. Mariani, 74, a Hopewell Junction resident for the past 34 years, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at New York-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital. She previously lived in Mahopac.
Born on June 17, 1941, she was the daughter of Celeste (Rienzi) and the late Edward Barone. On September 20, 1959 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in NYC, Theresa married Domenico Mariani who predeceased her on April 22, 2005.
Theresa had been employed in the bakery department at Wal-Mart in Fishkill for over 15 years. Theresa was very active with the East Fishkill Fire Department, including Hopewell Hose Fire Company #1, the East Fishkill Rescue Squad, and the Fire Police. She enjoyed playing slot machines and BINGO, especially at Hopewell Hose and Hillside Lake Fire Houses.
In addition to her mother, Theresa is also survived by her children, Mario Mariani and his wife Suzanne of Hopewell Junction, Debra Ann Gambino and her boyfriend Evan Thompson of Saugerties, Edward Mariani and his wife Catherine of Hopewell Junction, Anthony Mariani of Hopewell Junction, and Charles Mays of Stamford, CT; her grandchildren, Debbie Gambino and her boyfriend Matthew Dengler, Dominick Gambino, Noelle Somoskey, Paul Gambino, and Amber Mariani; her sister, Susan Vasti and her children Daniel, Donna, and Susan; her brother, Louis Barone, his wife Karen, and their children, Edward and Gena; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maria and Franco Fallone and their family. She was also predeceased by her son, Domenico Mariani, Jr. in 1980.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Friday from 9 – 10:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 11 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
