Theresia Matica, age 89, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 27, 2024. Theresia was born in Futog, Yugoslavia on October 15, 1934 to the late Stefan and Maria (Stutz) Bless. On January 9, 1954 in the Bronx, Theresia married her loving husband Anton Matica Jr. who predeceased her in March 2009.

Theresia loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Theresia was a religious woman who prayed for everyone and was always concerned for their well-being.
Theresia enjoyed going on cruises with Anton and taking summer vacations in Florida with her family. She traveled several times to Germany throughout the years to visit family and friends. Theresia enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crafting, singing and working in the garden. In recent years, she loved spending time at the East Fishkill Senior Center, and getting together with a group of her girlfriends at the food court or playing cards and board games at each other's homes, while enjoying a good cup of coffee with homemade desserts. Theresia was a wonderful storyteller, often sharing stories of her family's history.
Theresia is survived by her 3 children: Marianne Matica-Ressler and her husband James of Deep River, CT; Michael A. Matica of Hopewell Junction; and Andrew S. Matica and his wife Krissy of Deposit, NY; as well as 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved husband Anton, she was predeceased by her siblings: Jacob Bless, Ann Bless Gyimoti, Barbara Grunwald, and baby Wilhelm Bless; as well as her son Michael's beloved dog Tippet, with whom she loved and had a special bond.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:30 am at the funeral home, followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery, 602 Beekman Rd.
