Thomas J. Brugar, 69, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 34 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New York City on September 18, 1942, he was the son of Steven and Agnes Clarke Brugar. He proudly served our country in the US Army and was employed as a Trouble Shooter for Con Edison in Elmsford until his retirement in 2000. Tom was a parishioner and usher at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and a member of St. Mary's Council #4065, Knights of Columbus in Fishkill. He loved traveling to Aruba with his family and fishing.
On January 15, 1966 in the Bronx, Tom married Teri DiDio who predeceased him on January 12, 2008. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Keith Scofield of Hopewell Junction; his cherished grandson, Tyler Scofield; his friend, Maureen; his sister, Susan McDonnell and her husband John of Sea Girt, NJ; his brother-in-law, Kenneth DiDio and his wife Elaine of Raleigh, NC; his sister-in-law, Janet Dale and her husband Richard of Cochranville, PA; his niece, Kelli DiDio and her fiancé Miguel Isamat of Charlotte, NC; and his nephew, Michael DiDio of Raleigh, NC.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Knights of Columbus will conduct a service at 7:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
