Obituary

Thomas Vincent Conroy, 91, a resident of Poughquag for 19 years and formerly of Queens, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New York City on November 17, 1919, he was the son of Thomas Benson and Gladys Turbush Conroy. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during World War II. Tom worked for several national magazine distribution companies including CBS Publications, Union News Corp and Select Magazines. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and a member of the Marine Corps League (Carmen Raputi Det: 861). He was also very involved in St. Raphael's CYO, having served as President, Board Member and Coach for more than 20 years. He was a member and past president of the READ Corp, a magazine distributors club and a past board member of the Putnam Lake Community Council. He enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, fishing, golfing and sporting events, especially for the New York Giants and Yankees.
On July 16, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in New York City, Tom married Mary O'Leary who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Thomas Conroy of Yorktown Heights, Sally Conroy of Dover Plains, James Conroy of New York City and Patricia Conroy Hewitt of Pleasant Valley; and his grandchildren, Kevin, Jasper, Christopher, Daniel, Allison, Thomas, Dylan and Kristen. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Croghan and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Conroy.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
