SURFSIDE BEACH, SC – Thomas O. Dodge, Jr., 81, died on June 2, 2016 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Born on May 24, 1935 in Johnson City, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Vivian (Hilligas) Dodge. He moved to Poughkeepsie, NY in 1974 where he resided until 1995.
He proudly served in the US Naval Reserves for 12 years. Tom worked in various IBM locations during his 30 year career. He retired in 1993.
On April 24, 1954, he married his first wife, Dawn M. Bulger. They enjoyed many wonderful years until her death in 1993.
On July 21, 1995 in Wappingers Falls, he married Marianne Yamen Lewis Dodge who survives at home. After their marriage, Tom and Marianne retired to Surfside Beach where they spent their evenings enjoying the sunsets at the beach on their deck.
Tom was a member of the boy's and men's choirs at St. James Church in Johnson City. He enjoyed fishing, bowling in the Bridge City Bowling League and was a member of the Garden City Liars Club. In his retirement, he enjoyed working on the Garden City Pier and driving the Tupelo Bay bus where he went out of his way to help the residents of Oceanside Village on their way to the beach. With his keen wit and sense of humor, Tom was the life of any gathering. He was a selfless man; generous and giving, always helping others.
In addition to his wife, Marianne, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Stephen and Jean Dodge of Poughkeepsie, NY, Lynn Dodge of Sidney, NY, William and Carol Dodge of Hyde Park, NY, Michael Dodge of Albany, NY, Pam and Ron McHugh of Pleasant Valley, Dawn McKenzie and her fiancé John Rauschbach of Lagrange, NY , Debra and Michael Ryan of Saranac Lake, NY, and Buck Lewis of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Russell Dodge, Allysia Dodge, Brianna Dodge, Britney McHugh, Mark McHugh, Erin Ryan, and Kilian Ryan; and his brothers and their spouses, Edward and Deb Dodge of Zephyr Hills, FL and David and Fran Dodge of Afton, NY. He is also survived by many other family members and many good friends.
In addition to his first wife and parents, he was predeceased by four brothers: Robert, Joseph, Dennis and James Dodge.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction with the funeral service at 6pm. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
