Thomas J. Halliday, Sr., 81, a resident of the Town of Fishkill, died peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Bronx on June 19, 1928, he was the son of Thomas and Mary Hebrank Halliday. Thomas attended elementary school in the Bronx where he met his wife, Mary. After graduating, he attended Samuel Gompers Vocational School. He had his own trucking business and was contracted by the A&P to deliver their products. He was a former member of Joe DiMaggio Lodge #2248, Sons of Italy.
On May 29, 1948 at St. Helena's Church in the Bronx, Thomas married Mary "Marie" Lotito. Thomas and Mary moved to this area in September of 1968. He was employed by a local gas station until his retirement in 1986. In 1994, they moved to Saratoga for 12 years. They returned to the area in March of 2006 to be near their family.
In addition to his wife of more than 60 years, Thomas is survived by his children, Susan Collins and her husband, Edward of Wappingers Falls, Thomas J. Halliday, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Pleasant Valley and John P. Halliday and his wife, Julie of Highland; and his grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Jessica Collins, Monet, Norel, Adam and Jason Halliday, and Alyssa Williams. He was predeceased by his sister, Julia Falcone.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
