Obituary

Thomas J. Hanny, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away on October 6, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 76 years old.

Born in Topeka, Kansas on July 6, 1949, Thomas was the son of the late William and Katherine (Valigurski) Hanny. He pursued his passion for the arts by attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City and later earned a master's degree in psychology from Lehman College in the Bronx, NY.

Thomas dedicated his professional life to helping others, working as a psychologist at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he cared deeply for individuals living with mental health challenges. After retiring from state service, he channeled his creativity into his love of antiques, becoming a well-known antique dealer in Hyde Park, NY.

An artist at heart, Thomas enjoyed woodworking and copper knocking. He had a keen eye for finding and restoring antiques, often collecting unique pieces for himself. He was also a car enthusiast who loved driving his classic Triumph TR6 sports car. A true foodie, he delighted in exploring diverse cuisines-French food being a particular favorite.

Thomas married Mary Corcoran on October 13, 1989, at St. Mary's Church in East Islip, NY. Together, they built a loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary, his son Christian Hanny, and his cherished granddaughters Kate and Emma Hanny. He also leaves behind his sister Carol Ann Hanny; nieces and nephews, Sara Jane Nevers (Ryan), Jonathan Hanny, Megan Seal (Sean Noonan), Glenn Seal (Ana), and Julie Seal (Erik Plambeck), Ceira Barnes, and Brendan Corcoran.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his brother, Steven Hanny.

Thomas will be remembered for his compassion, creativity, humor, and deep appreciation for life's finer details. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
