Obituary

BEACON – Thomas E. Johnston, 58, a lifelong area resident, died on May 9, 2017 at Putnam Hospital Center.

Born in Poughkeepsie on November 8, 1958, he was the son of the late Mary T. (DeForest) and Robert J. Johnston, Sr. He was a Deputy Director for the New York City Housing Authority where he had been employed since 1994.

Tom enjoyed spending time in his garden and tinkering around his house. Most of all, he loved helping those around him and will be greatly missed by all.

On April 14, 2003 in Beacon, Tom married Gerri "Gigi" (Wood) Johnston who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Veronica Rose Johnston of Putnam, Kacee Paige and her husband Christopher of Ledyard, CT, and Catherine Johnston of Beacon; his grandson, Joseph Thomas Rocco; his brothers, Robert J. Johnston, Jr. of LaGrangeville, Sëan C. Johnston of Poughquag, and Damian P. Johnston and his wife Stephanie of Coxsackie; his sisters, Mary E. Fox and her husband John of Fort Ann, Jeanmarie E. Savoury of Torrington, CT, Margaret T. Eldred of Mishawaka, IN, and Susan J. Farioli of Lakeland, FL; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The funeral service will follow at 8pm at the funeral home.
