Thomas John McLay, a lifelong local area resident, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 73.
Son of the late William and Annie (Allan) McLay, he was born in Yonkers on July 11, 1948. Tom's family later relocated to Dutchess County, where he grew up in the Dutchess Park neighborhood of Fishkill.
In 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense and Vietnam Service Medals and was discharged from active duty in 1970. Tom worked as a union carpenter for many years until his retirement.
In 1988, he married Jody (Watson) McLay, who predeceased him in 2020.
Survivors include his daughter, Meghan McLay; his grandson, Dmitri Franklin; his brother, Billy McLay; his nephews, Billy McLay, Jr., Ryan McLay, and Taylor McLay; his niece, Christine McLay, along with her children Boston and Easton; and many other loving relatives & friends.
A graveside service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
