Thomas G. McMann, of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a lengthy battle with heart disease. The son of the late Arthur E. and Evelyn (nee Benson) McMann, Tom McMann was born in Newburgh, NY, on November 9, 1945.
Tom was a graduate of Valley Central High School in Montgomery, and attended Orange Community College and Dutchess Community College. He had worked for the Dutchess County Office for the Aging and retired from the Dutchess County Department of Social Services in 2005 due to health reasons. Prior to that, he had worked in the banking industry in Orange and Dutchess counties for 17 years.
On October 7, 1972, he married Rosemary L. Pinckney at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, NY. Mrs. McMann survives at home.
Tom was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Parish and had been active in school and parish functions for a number of years.
Other survivors include his beloved son, Sean T. McMann of Poughkeepsie; a brother, James of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Barbara Bedford of Wallkill; several nieces and nephews; and his buddy, Jacob Wiegard of Hopewell Junction.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to his physicians and dedicated staff: Dr. Richard H. Dal Col of Albany Cardiothoracic Group, Dr. Robert Parajon, Dr. Sanjaya Jha and The Hudson Valley Heart Center's Coumadin Clinic, Dr. Elliott Levine, Dr. Paul Feldman, Vassar Brothers Wound Care Center, Dutchess Dialysis Center and Dr. Jerome Fein for all the care given Tom through the years. You all meant so much to him.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Tom's memory be made to LaGrange Rescue Squad No. 3; 21 Red Oaks Mill Road; Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
