Thomas Joseph Readyoff

March 15, 1937 - September 30, 2026

On September 30, 2026, Tom (formerly of Mahopac, New York) was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, joining his late wife Nancy.

He grew up in Malverne, Long Island, with his sister Mary Ann, learned to play piano and trumpet, and graduated Malverne High School in 1955. He subsequently attended the University of Michigan, where he received both a B.A. in 1959 and an M.A. in 1960 in Music Education. During his Senior year, he met his future wife Nancy on a blind date. After graduation, Tom completed his Army obligation, and played trumpet in the Army band. He then married Nancy in her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They relocated to Long Island, where Tom became an instrumental music teacher at the Sewanhaka School District. After relocating to Mahopac, he taught instrumental music in the Peekskill School District and the Mahopac School District. In 1970, he became an Assistant Principal of Mahopac High School, and in 1978, he became the principal of Mahopac High School, where he worked for the next 21 years, retiring in 1999.

Tom and Nancy lived happily in Mahopac for 50 years, raising three children, Kathy, David and Deborah Lee. They were married for 58 years.

Tom was an active member at the Mission Church in Holmes, New York, from 1980 to 2026. He served on the church board, the missionary board, and the Board of Trustees, and was a Deacon and an Elder. He and Nancy taught marriage classes and mentored many couples preparing for marriage.

He served on the committee for the annual Putnam County Leadership Prayer Breakfast for 28 years. Additionally, he was a founding board member of the Putnam County Habitat for Humanity, and worked in several polling places for the board of elections in Putnam County and Dutchess County for many years.

Tom is described by family and friends as a man of integrity, generous, faithful, eager to lend a helping hand, possessing a wonderfully dry wit, and being the only person they knew who pronounced Mahopac as Mah-HO-pak.

He is survived by his children: Kathy, David (Laura) and Deborah Lee (Paul), and his grandchildren Joshua, Gabriel, Stephen, Andrew, Ellie, Raven and Ethan. A memorial service will be held at The Mission Church in Holmes, New York on Saturday October 10, 2026 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mission Church Benevolence Fund (www.missionchurch.com).
