On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Duong Thi Thuc Lan, loving wife and mother to five children, passed away at age 94.
Lan was born on October 26, 1926. She was a caring and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She married Hoang Dinh Yen in 1952 and they started a tight-knit and loving family together. After the tragic loss of Yen in 1972, she stood strong as the rock of the family, her courage and perseverance legendary. Through war, sickness, and death, she never wavered and kept the entire family together, even as they spread around the world to Vietnam, New York, and California.
Even though her grandchildren were all over the world, Lan always made them feel at home. She always knew what they were up to in their education, careers, and family, and her warm advice and support will always be treasured. Her attitude and sense of humor will be missed, and her authentic and delicious Hue-style Vietnamese cuisine will be passed down but never perfectly replicated. Her children will always think of her whenever they watch her favorite soap operas and dramas.
She is survived by her two daughters Hoang Thuy Lien and Hoang Thuy Anh; her eldest sons Hoang Minh Duc and Hoang Minh Tri; her seven grandchildren, four in the United States and three in Vietnam; and her three great grandchildren in Vietnam, all of whom will miss her dearly. They take comfort in the fact that she will be with her husband, Hoang Dinh Yen, and youngest son, Hoang Minh Tuan, again.
