Timothy P. Winters

Captain Timothy P. Winters, age 83, went home to be with his Savior on September 15, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family, whom he loved so much.

Born in Bogota, NJ in 1942 and raised in the small town of Westerlo, NY, Tim enlisted in the U.S. Navy after completing high school. He then graduated from the Naval Academy in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

He served his country in the Navy with honor and integrity for 30 years. His roles in that distinguished military career included piloting S-2 aircraft; serving as Commanding Officer (CO) of the VS-22 anti-submarine warfare squadron; serving as Navigator and Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy; and serving as CO of the USS Kalamazoo supply ship during Desert Storm. His final years in the service were spent at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, where he taught NROTC.

After retiring from the Navy, Tim taught NJROTC at Brewster High School for 8 years. He also worked as a fitness trainer at Fishkill All Sport for 20 years in his retirement, where he discovered his irrepressible love for dad jokes. (Have you heard the one about ... ?)

At Fishkill Baptist Church (FBC), Tim took great delight in teaching the children's Sunday School classes. Also at FBC, he served three terms as moderator for the church's business meetings where his encyclopedic knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order became legendary.

Tim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cortney J. Winters; his son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Lisa Winters; his grandchildren, Anna and Emily; his sister, Carolyn; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Tim's Life will be held at Fishkill Baptist Church in the coming weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or Hudson Valley Hospice.
