Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Uwe Heitmann, 84, passed away in his home on May 27, 2022.

Born in Hamburg, Germany on July 31, 1937, Uwe was one of five children of the late Wilhelm and Anneliese (Zarp) Heitmann. After living through World War II and its aftermath, he immigrated with his family to New York City in 1953. Uwe worked a variety of jobs and learned to speak English. When he worked as a bank teller, he invested in a warm wool coat and has worn it every winter since. Uwe moved with his parents to East Fishkill, bought a book about construction, and decided to become a builder. He was hired for his first project, a garage, in 1957, which still stands today in Cold Spring, NY. For over 60 years, he honed his craft and trained many. He was a member of the US Army Reserves and an owner of Heitmann Builders, Inc. in Hopewell Junction, taking great pride in constructing homes for local residents.

On September 23, 1961, at the Hopewell Reformed Church, Uwe married the love of his life Carlotta A. Sartori, who predeceased him on December 24, 2021, after 60 years of marriage. He was a beloved father and grandfather. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Roland Heitmann and Jeanne-Marie Fleming of Garrison, Eric and Kiersten Heitmann of Naples, FL, and Greg and Krysta Heitmann of East Fishkill; his grandchildren, Anna, Brandon, Tyler, Coco, Colton, Hudson, and Sailor; his siblings, Rugert and Irene Heitmann, Ute Rennhack, Renate and Dennis Rainboth, and Walter and Linda Heitmann; and three nieces and five nephews.

Uwe was a dedicated and generous man who enjoyed spending time with his family and helping them with their projects. He was passionate about his work and leaves behind a lasting legacy. He joys included boating on Loon Lake, talking with his grandkids, and revisiting his hometown in Germany.

There will be a wake Monday evening from 4-7 pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Tuesday morning at The Rural Cemetery behind the Bethel Baptist Church of Shenandoah, East Fishkill.
