Valerie Maria Machado, a Fishkill resident since 2000, formerly of New York City and Mahopac, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 40 years old.
She was born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania on March 30, 1973. For the last 14 years, she was an elementary school teacher for Peekskill City Schools. Valerie was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
She is survived by her mother, Leonie C. Machado of Mahopac; her father, Viviano F. Machado of Yorktown Heights; her brother, Leslie Paul Machado & his wife Kate of Alexandria, VA; her nephew and niece, Brendan & Erin Machado; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
