Virgil B. Morgan, a lifelong local area resident, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 86.

Son of the late Charles and Ruth (Windover) Morgan, he was born in Kingston on October 4, 1938. Virgil worked as a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation for 40 years until his retirement.

He was a skilled golfer who played in many tournaments and belonged to several leagues. He played at countless country clubs, primarily College Hill and McCann Memorial Golf Courses in Poughkeepsie. Other than golfing, Virgil cherished spending time outdoors and was an avid deer hunter as well. He was also a New York Mets fan.

On May 5, 1960, he married Maryann Volnick. After 54 years of marriage, Maryann predeceased Virgil on May 22, 2014.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura A. Wolfe of Fishkill; his sister, Terry VanTassell & her husband Patrick of Milton, NY; his brother-in-law, Pete Farinacci; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Virgil was also predeceased by his siblings: Ralph Morgan & his wife Irene, Janice Farinacci, Bill Morgan, Charles Morgan II (Boo), Mike Morgan, and John Morgan; as well as his son-in-law, Richard G. Wolfe.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, June 24 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will begin at 11am, followed by interment at Union Cemetery, 1076 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY.

Throughout his final years, Virgil greatly benefited from Evergreen Minds, a local non-profit organization which assists individuals suffering from dementia by reconnecting them with nature and the outdoors.
